Sajid Javid helped Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club celebrate the completion of ground improvements at their Victoria Ground home on Saturday (18 April). The project was made possible thanks to a £100,000 grant from the Premier League through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF).

Mr Javid helped unveil the improvements at Bromsgrove Sporting FC, who currently play in the Midland Football League, ahead of the club’s victory/draw/match against Lichfield City FC.

Funding from the Premier League, through the FSIF, and Budweiser Club Futures has enabled Bromsgrove Sporting FC, known as ‘The Rouslers’, to make substantial improvements to the Victoria Ground. The stadium upgrade comprised: replacement of floodlighting, clubhouse refurbishment including new showers, improvements to insulation and window fittings, car park resurfacing and plant storage areas. Disabled parking provision and wheelchair-accessibility were all also improved as part of the project.

The works were necessary in order for the club to meet the requirements for Step 6 of the FA National Ground Grading Criteria and ensure that club can remain financially sustainable over the coming years.

Funded with £5.2m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Bromsgrove Sporting FC also received a £50,000 grant from Budweiser as part of its Club Futures programme. The ambition of Budweiser Club Futures is to help clubs to help themselves, with the grant recipients using their funding to improve their general facilities and make their club more financially sustainable. These funds support the clubs to be at the heart of their communities, helping to ensure the future of the beautiful game at the grassroots level across the UK.

Sajid Javid, commented: “It was a real honour to attend the opening of Bromsgrove Sporting FC’s ground improvements. The new facilities will be an excellent resource for the club, enabling them to remain financially sustainable in the future.

"It’s great to see money from the top of the game being invested into supporting the growth of amateur clubs. The Premier League, through the FSIF, is working to provide clubs with facilities that get more people playing football which supports the growth and development clubs throughout the National Football League system.”

"Everyone involved in the project from Bromsgrove Sporting FC, Worcester FA and FSIF, deserve huge credit for what they’ve helped to achieve and I look forward to watching the club go from strength to strength over the coming years thanks to these excellent facilities.”

John Teece, Chairman, Bromsgrove Sporting FC, remarked: "We are grateful to Sajid Javid, our local MP for the last five years, for opening our new social facility and celebrating our new floodlights with us. We would also like to thank Budweiser for awarding us a grant of £50,000, as part of their Club Futures programme, which enabled us to receive substantial funding from the FSIF.

“The new facilities will not only benefit football at the Victoria Ground but the wider community of Bromsgrove, with our function rooms being use by a variety of community groups. The improvements to heat insulation and water conservation should also reduce our running costs for years to come.

“The Victoria Ground has been Bromsgrove's centre of football for well over 100 years. We are proud to have been able to make these much needed improvements. I am sure the benefactors who gifted the ground to the town would have been proud.”

Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “The Premier League, through the FSIF, has invested heavily into Bromsgrove Sporting FC and it is great to see that the ground improvement works are now complete. The club can now satisfy the relevant FA National Ground Grading Criteria for their current level.

It is fundamental that clubs should be able to progress competitively through ability and success on the field of play, and not hindered because of unsatisfactory facilities. The club now has an excellent base from which to develop and grow further thanks to the FSIF. I would like to congratulate all members of Bromsgrove Sporting FC who have worked so hard to provide a bright future for both their club and local community.”
