Small grants available from the Fans Fund to improve supporters’ experiences of the game

The Premier League Fans Fund – a three-year £3.5m commitment from the Premier League to fund projects and organisations which improve the relationship between fans and their clubs, the way football supporters engage with each other and fans’ experience of the game – is announcing an exciting new development.

Having previously funded only large-scale programmes the Fund is inviting ‘one-off’ applications from smaller fans’ groups who want to strengthen a relationship with their professional football club.

Any supporters groups thinking of applying must be able to demonstrate that the project for which funding is being sought has been discussed with, and endorsed by, their club.

Just like the Telford United Supporters Trust (TUST), for example, who were awarded a grant of £20,000 to help grow its number of trustees and active supporters. The ‘Building the Telford Tribe’ project, as it will be known, will allow the TUST to interview a cross section of Telford FC’s fans, including children, families and disabled supporters, to understand how they feel the match day experience can be improved.

This exercise will lead to Telford FC implementing new initiatives, including developing a family section within the ground and establishing a pre-match welcome area near local five-a-side pitches, so that younger fans can use them before games.

Additionally, the TUST want to enhance an existing partisan section behind the home goal by allowing supporters to decorate it with flags, and launch a proactive social media campaign to raise the profile of the club in the wider community.

Supporters groups interested in finding out more information on how they can apply for this funding should visit: http://www.fsif.co.uk/funding/fans-fund-small-grants-scheme/
