Ampthill Town FC’s upgraded clubhouse unveiled by Deputy Mayor in Bedfordshire

Stephen Addy, Deputy Mayor of Ampthill, was given the honour of unveiling an upgraded clubhouse recently (Saturday 16 September) as part of a partnership project for Ampthill Town FC (ATFC) and Ampthill Town Council. The upgrade project was made possible by a grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), the largest funders of non-league football in the country.

The funding has enabled Ampthill Town, which has two teams in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, to refurbish and extend their existing pavilion – which was originally built in the early 1960s. The facility now comprises: improved officials’ and team changing rooms; a large clubroom; a kitchen and spectator toilets.

Thanks to the upgrade project, the club can now offer its players a state-of-the-art facility. The improvement of the pavilion also means that the club’s home ground continues to meet the requirements of the FA National Ground Grading Criteria for their Step 6 position.

The improved clubhouse will benefit all of ATFC’s teams, which start from the Under-8 level. Thanks to the project, the club has already been able to enter a senior team into the Spartan South Midlands Under-25 Development League and an Under-16 side into the Eastern Junior Alliance League. Additionally, the facility will be made available to the local community for social and recreational activities.

This was made possible by the £93,000 grant that the club received from the Premier League, delivered by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund – the sister organisation of the Football Foundation.

Funded with £6.5m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF – the sister organisation of the Football Foundation – is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Gary Maidment, ATFC Chairman, said: “This project will provide the club with a firm foundation to build on the hard work at this club to provide football at a semi-professional and recreational level for years to come. I would like to thank the Premier League and Football Stadia Improvement Fund, and and the local Council for this wonderful facility.”

Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia improvement Fund, said: “I am delighted to hear that this generous grant from the Premier League, delivered by the FSIF, has allowed Ampthill Town FC to improve its clubhouse. This will afford the club’s players and members a much safer and more comfortable experience.

“Through the FSIF, the Premier League invests in improving the standards of stadia at lower levels of the game, to ensure that facilities up and down the country are delivering the best footballing experience possible. This project is an excellent example of the work of the FSIF.”
