Delight for Irlam FC as new community clubhouse opens

IRLAM FC 3

Irlam Football Club marked the official opening of their new community clubhouse at their Silver Street home recently (Tuesday 21 July). The project was made possible thanks to a £99,700 grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF).

Colin Bridgford, Chief Executive of the Manchester FA, was present at the official opening. Funding from the Premier League has enabled Irlam FC, who play in The North West Counties Football League, to build a new hospitality area adjacent to the existing changing pavilion. The hospitality area comprises a large clubroom, kitchen and bar facilities, toilets and plant storage.

The new facility will ensure that Irlam FC can remain financially sustainable over the coming years, help the club to enhance provision for coaching and attract new players.

Funded with £5.2m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Warren Dodd, Club Secretary, Irlam FC, said: “Our capital grant award from the FSIF was absolutely pivotal in us realising our ambition to place a community clubhouse facility at our ground. The FSIF was the majority funding partner in the build project, and their professionalism and guidance throughout the process has helped us to deliver a first class build that will serve the Club for many years to come. The build will certainly help us to sustain and build on the good work that the members of our Club have already achieved.”

Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “This fantastic new facility at Irlam FC demonstrates the Premier League’s commitment to supporting clubs at all levels of the National League System. Irlam FC’s hospitality area will provide a real boost to grassroots sport in the local area and enable the club to enjoy a bright future. I would like to wish all their teams the very best of luck for the coming season.”
