Sky Sports presenter Geoff Shreeves was on hand to officially unveil Wingate & Finchley FC’s improved changing pavilion recently (Saturday 18 August). This has been made possible by investment from the Premier League, which has been delivered by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF).

The investment has enabled Step 3 club Wingate & Finchley, who play in the Isthmian League, Premier Division, to carry out improvement works to the home and away changing rooms, officials’ changing rooms and bar areas at the club’s Maurice Rebak Stadium.

In addition to the improvement works within the clubhouse, the club also carried out the removal of some materials containing asbestos in the bar and hospitality areas. The refurbishments ensure that the club is now compliant with the current Equality Act of 2010.

Founded in 1991, Wingate & Finchley FC’s ground is currently owned by the Wingate Youth Trust. With the club managing the facility, they have received financial backing from the charity to support the cost of the changing pavilion upgrade.

The project was made possible by a £146,592 grant from the Premier League, which is delivered through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund – the sister organisation of the Football Foundation.

In 2016 Wingate & Finchley FC were awarded a £6,000 grant from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund to purchase new pitch maintenance equipment. This grant ensured that the club is able to provide the best possible playing surface with top of the range equipment.

Aron Sharpe, Chairman of Wingate & Finchley, said: “The club are delighted to have received this support from The Football Stadia Improvement Fund and the Premier League.

“As a club run solely by volunteers, the newly refurbished facilities will allow us to continue to provide a first class facility, where young local players can continue to develop. The upgraded clubhouse means the local community can enjoy their visits to Wingate & Finchley FC in the future. I would also like to thank my good friend Geoff Shreeves for taking time out to officially open the new clubhouse.”

Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “I’m delighted for everyone associated at Wingate & Finchley FC that this project has now been completed. The changing pavilion refurbishment will not only be enjoyed by players and officials at the club, but also spectators and visiting supporters from across the country. My thanks go to Geoff Shreeves for officially unveiling the project.

“Through the FSIF, investment from the Premier League is being used to improve the infrastructure at lower levels of the game. This is being achieved through projects just like Wingate & Finchley FC’s development, which are improving the experiences of players and spectators all over the country.”
